Indie Bookstores: Gotta Love 'Em!

First off, don't forget to comment on Lauren's post below for a chance to win 2 signed copies of her books!

This week we're talking about Favorite Haunts and I've decided to dedicate my post to indie bookstores. We all have our favorites, whether a local one or one that we love to visit when we're traveling. Today I'm posting some photos I've taken at The King's English, a bookstore located in the Salt Lake City, Utah area that's full of wonderful character, genuine book lovers, and of course great books.

In the below photo, you'll see YA authors and Utah residents Sara Zarr on the left, me in the middle, and Emily Wing Smith on the right. The King's English is great about celebrating local authors.

Recently, Emily Wing Smith launched her highly anticipated Back When You Were Easier to Love and I was lucky enough to get to come to the party The King's English threw. (Bottom photo)

Do you have a favorite indie bookstore? If you're looking for one close to you or in the next town you're visiting, check out this cool web-site: http://www.indiebound.org.

That looks like such a great store! My favorite indy bookstore is sadly no longer there: the one I worked for for 11 years, Klein's of Westport, CT.

Looks like a fab store! If I get out to SLC I will be sure to visit! I have a few favorites in the Chicago area. There is Quimby's in Chicago which has a bunch of zines along with really indie books. I also love Women and Children First in Chicago, which is a great feminist bookstore that has been really supportive of me. My hometown bookstore, Centuries & Sleuths as you may have guessed is a history and mystery bookstore, but they have been so supportive of me as a local author even though I'm outside of those genres and their books are so unique and interesting. And Anderson's in Naperville is one of the best indie stores ever!

What a cool looking place to hang out! I don't really know of an indie store near me. I'm sure there are some and I'll look them up on the website you provided. :)

I do hope to support more local indies now that my favorite large store chain folded.
