Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

When it comes to physical beauty, have you noticed how we often disagree about what makes someone beautiful. Very often my husband and I will have totally different views about whether someone is attractive. I might say that girl/guy is gorgeous and he'll totally disagree. And vice versa.

Is it a man/woman thing?

And do you think there is any connection between our own physical appearance and what we think is beautiful? So, for example, are dark haired women more likely to find dark haired women attractive. And the same for blonds. I don't have any answers to this, I'm just posing the question ;)

I very rarely notice anyone until I am in their company. For me, humor and quick wit is the most attractive of all qualities, so until I know if someone is intelligent, they usually don't pop up on my radar. But then I can find someone conventionally unattractive VERY attractive if they are wildly funny or very smart. My husband tends to be the opposite and it's more about just how someone looks.

I actually tend to find people with features that contrast mine more attractive. I'm blond with a girl next door type look and I tend to find women with darker hair and more exotic features more attractive. When it comes to men though I usually find what's closer to my look more attractive. However, that's a strictly by looks only analysis, if I get to know a person and they have a great personality I usually think they are attractive no matter what their physical features.

I really do think beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Take my husband, for instance. We got married last year and wrote our own vows. He called me his "chocolate goddess". (I'm African-American, he's white). He calls me beautiful all the time, loves my skinny legs, doesn't think I have a paunch that makes me look like I'm 3 months pregnant...and all I see is flaws.

I think I only look pretty when I get dressed up to go out: hair done, make-up,. etc. I think certain clothes make me look good, but on a daily basis? I wish I could change a lot of things about myself.

I agree with lisa f word for word but wanted to add that when I think people are beautiful and they end up being jerks, I don't see them as beautiful any longer.

I agree with both Lisa and Wendy when I first meet someone. So it's very superficial. But once I speak to them then I totally go for intellect, humour and quick wit, like Erica!

Celise, I don't there are many people who wouldn't change things about themselves.

Anyone who can make me laugh (which is pretty easy to do) is beautiful in my eyes.
That said, while I’ve battled my wavy hair for most of my life, I always admire it on others—go figure!

There are different aspects I find beautiful on different individuals. I can't pinpoint one thing that I can say is beautiful on a handful of people. I think each of us has our own little unique beautiful. :) ;)
