Movie Madness!!!!!!

I'd originally planned to post about my TV addiction, but Alyson beat me to the TV post. So, then I thought I'd fess up about me and movies!

Unlike with books, which I rarely re-read, I have this thing about movies. When I find one I love I watch it time and time again. Let's take one of my all time favourites, Love Actually. I saw it 8 times at the movies and then bought the DVD. And that's not the only one. I have watched Notting Hill, Miss Congeniality and Sister Act 1 and 2 more times than I remember. And let's not even go down the Sound of Music track!!!!

And this isn't something new. When I was in my teens, on the quiet (as this isn't something to admit to your friends) I would watch all the old MGM musicals. I was obsessed by Calamity Jane. I knew every line of dialogue, every song lyric! I even planned to have a wedding dress like the one she wore at the end..... yes, I know definitely weird for a teen!!! I still love musicals, theatre or movie. In fact over the weekend I watched High School Musical for the first time. That's definitely a keeper.

What about you and movies?

Hey Sara-
Yup, I'm just as obsessive about my movies as I am my TV shows-- with my all time, hands down favorite being American Beauty.

When it first came out, I saw Princess Bride three times in one week and I still rewatch it all the time. It's just one of those perfect movies that has everything!!!!

I am insanely into the movies. My best friend and I are total film nuts. I loved LOVE ACTUALLY (one of the things you and I have in common . . .). And I love musicals. For me, when I was sick, I always felt like musicals guaranteed me happy moments--so my younger daughter and I would watch GUYS AND DOLLS and GYPSY, lying in my big bed, just loving the costumes and the songs.

I love old B&W films--Waterloo Bridge, and You Can't Take It With You, and Angel and the Badman.

Modern stuff . . . I'm partial to films like The Illusionist . . . period pieces. Foreign flicks. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Anything with Clive Owen. :-) ANYTHING with him, LOL!

I once had a family member say (in a tone of obvious disdain) "You watch your movies more than once?" I sure do! I've seen Moulin Rouge a zillion times along with all of the Harry Potter films. :)

And Sara, I just watched HSM for the second time this weekend. Funny timing. :)

I love movies, too. In my family, there is a movie quote for every occasion. Some of our most quoted lines come from O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Singin in the Rain, Bandits, Much Ado About Nothing, Princess Bride, Pirates, Ever After, Return to Me... I could go on and on. Eclectic taste here.

And Erica, we once had an international flight that showed both The Illusionist and The Prestige, and sparked quite a debate along our row of seats about which one was best. :)

Ah, movies! I typically have to wait till they come out for rental and watch them at home, but I had to cough up the babysitting money when The Bourne Ultimatum hit theaters. And I did go to the movies to see Knocked Up -- twice.

I like the Illusionist much better. I liked the Prestige but didn't like the foray into sci fi.

OMG, Erica! Guys and Dolls, I LOVE that movie.... when my kids were small we used to have this ritual, they would stand on the arm of the sofa and we'd sing 'I love you, a bushel and a peck, a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck' at which point they'd leap off and land on me with their arms around my neck!!!

Love Actually is amazing. The scene where the girl watches her wedding video and realizes her husband's best friend is in love with her is one of the best scenes ever filmed. I made my daughter watch it twice the other day because I wanted to show her the moment her face changes when the truth dawns on her and the look of pain filled loss on his face as he watches.

Then when he hesitates outside the door and tries to walk back in several times...and finally makes the right decision... it never fails to make me cry.

I long to capture meotion like that in my writing.

Yup, High School Musical is definitely a keeper. I've seen that movie/musical about a million times, and after it came out on DVD I just had to have it!

Because the lead male, Zac Efron is a total hottie! His crystal pool blue eyes just drive me crazy!

LOVE it!!! I have the soundtrack on my iPod.

And the SINGING Marlon Brando--PRE his fat period, when he was smoldering? Gotta love it.

Yes, Erica, Marlon was pretty hot in those days!!
