Sibling relationship - Rocky or Smooth waves?

I only have one other sibling...a sister. We're only 18 months apart, so we were really close when we were little. My mom even dressed us alike. Then, when she went to high school it all changed. Suddenly I was a big pest, someone she didn't want to be around. When I asked her what it was like to kiss a guy (she had her first boyfriend at the time), she wouldn't answer and said I'd figure it out myself like she had to do.

From then on, it was downhill. Yes, I was a brat to her at times. And I'm sure I did things to grate on her nerves, but our relationship never got better. It's kind of like this:

I am totally jealous of people who have great relationships with their siblings (especially sisters). Serioulsy, if I asked my siter to paint my toenails she'd laugh in my face.

Do you have a sibling or wish you had one? If you have one, what's your relationship with them. Do you go to them for advice as if they're your best friend? Or do you only see them when you have to?

I'm lucky--I have two sisters, and we're all best friends and as close as can be. I live 10 minutes from one, and we finish each other's sentences . . . just a really great relationship. Growing up, I can't say it was always so great . . . but somehow we knew no matter what, we were sisters.

My three sisters are my three best friends. I have one of each - an older, a twin, and a younger. No one else in the world 'gets me' like they do. Other friends come and go, sisters are forever. And sometimes you just need to have a big fight with someone, knowing that you've got nothing to lose. And that's what my sisters are like.

But... there is no way you would ever get me near any of their toes for painting. Gross with a capital G!

I do like that we can borrow clothes and shoes though.

I have three sisters. And two brothers. Some I am closer to than others, but for the most part, I think our relationships are stronger (or at least more mature) than they were growing up, even though we're miles apart. (Or maybe because we're miles apart!)

Come to think of it, that might have something to do with it. Of the six kids, I am the only one who doesn't live within a thirty-mile radius. It has spared me the daily soap opera of family drama.

Sure, there are those times when I miss being a part of the family get-togethers and I don't always know the in-jokes, but I still like my sibs. That has to be worth something!

My sister and I are 2 yrs and 2 days apart. She's older. When we were young, my mom dressed us alike, did our hair the same, and we had combined birthday parties (Her b-day is June 3rd, mines the 5th).

And we get along great. When we were young, there was the usual sibling drama, but the olde we got, the more that dynamic changed and we became best friends. I would be truly devastated if anything ever happened to her.

I have three younger brothers, and there are only 5 years between us. Yikes!!! What was my mother thinking?

I'm closest to my youngest brother and he too lives in New Zealand. The others are in England with the rest of our family.

When we were younger it was definitely a case of me and the three boys - like two separate units. That's probably because they seemed so much younger than me. But the older we get the better we get along. Probably because I don't boss them around like I used to!!

I'm the youngest of three girls, and my sisters and I are so entirely different in every possible way- it's hard to believe we're related. We're also widely spaced with 5 and 10 years between us. And while I probably wouldn't paint their toe nails (due to my own squeamishness) I did dedicate my September book to them, so hopefully that will make up for it!
