I'm doing the Proust questions as well, so here we go...
1. What is your idea of earthly happiness?
Books!
2. Who are your favorite heroes of fiction?
The ones who make me *believe* in their story (And you know what, it's true for heroINES too!)
3. Your favorite painter?
Hmmm. I'm pretty fond of Giorgione. Also El Greco. Really, anything that makes me stop and stare, I love. Faberge eggs from Nicolas II's reign. A lot of medieval paintings--the belief! Statues that seem to stare right back at you.
4. Your favorite virtue?
I don't know. I think everyone should try to be a decent human being and I think that pretty much covers all the virtues, doesn't it?
5. Your favorite occupation?
Being paid to read books is my dream job. But I have to say, I'm pretty happy writing books!
Because this is my first ever post, and because I'm curious, who is YOUR favorite painter? I'll pick one comment at random on Saturday, May 15th, and that person will win a copy of my latest book, The Unwritten Rule (Please note you must have a US mailing address, as I can't afford to send books overseas right now!)

I've always loved Degas and his ballerinas.
Welcome, Elizabeth! I agree with your idea of worldly wonder - yea, books!
Can't get enough of Botticelli--beautiful lines, expressions, and colors :) And getting paid to read books would definitely be my dream job, too.
My favorite painter is definitely Vincent van Gogh. "Starry Night" has always had a special place in my heart.
Huge fan here! :) Can't wait to read UNWRITTEN RULE!
Welcome, Elizabeth!
Favorite painter.... got to be Monet! Welcome to TFC, Elizabeth it's fabulous to have you here.
I have to say, I think it'd be an awesome job to read books for a living, esp. the good ones!

I'm going to say Monet! I love flowers and lakes, so these paintings always cheer me up.
Ok, I have to be honest. I don't really have a favorite painter. Can't say I'm into paintings. But if I must choose, it would be my sister. Of course, I think she's the best painter no one's discovered.
Welcome, Elizabeth! I really enjoyed your answers although I have to admit I've always been partial to the simple art of finger paintings.
Welcome, Elizabeth--huge fan of yours here! As for favorite artists- Picasso, Matisse, Van Gogh, Velazquez, Bottero, Hopper, Botticelli . . . too many to chose just one! :)
Hi Elizabeth- my favorite painter is Monet. You are one of my favorite authors. You always seem to write about me- or where I am- or problems I have had. Do you take any time to breathe? You write so many books and hey all are wonderful. ILY anna
Welcome--I'm new here too!
Your book sounds amazing--I'm really excited about it!
As for my favorite painter...That's a hard one, because I've never really been into paintings. I enjoy things that are pretty, things that have a sense of humor, or even a sense of history. I will say that I think the one that had the most impact on me was seeing the Mona Lisa in the Louvre when I was in high school--I'd already seen the painting a hundred times before, but what still blows me away, to this day, was it's size. It's SMALL. And what an impact it's had on society!
Elizabeth - welcome to Teen Fiction Cafe - it's so awesome to have you here, especially since I'm such a fan of your books! Don't enter me in the draw because I live waaay too far away but my favorite artist is Waterhouse and Nick Ashby(of course Nick is my brother but he is still majorly talented and is starting to get loads of recognition for it!!!)
I love the Impressionists, but of all of them, Monet is my favorite.
Margay
I'm from Canada, so I'm not in the contest, but I wanted to say that I like Da Vinci and Vincent van Gogh.
My brother Lee Cowan is my favorite painter. He's an artist, a businessman and a professor. I'm fascinated by his use of form and light.
Welcome to TFC, Elizabeth!!
I would have to say that my favorite artist is Julian Beever. And though his murals and paintings are excellent, it's really his chalk art I'm crazy about. They're just incredible, really. And what I also love about him is how his work covers every aspect of human emotion: Humor, terror, serenity, etc. I could stare at his pictures for hours and still notice different things in them I hadn't before.
Check out his pavement art here; you can never get enough of them: http://users.skynet.be/J.Beever/pave.htm
Great interview, Elizabeth. It's nice to know more about my favorite author :)
@Kelsey--You're totally right! Julian Beever is awesome!!!!!

I can't believe I won something!!! Yea!!!!!
Welcome to TFC, Elizabeth! I'm such a fan of your work and so excited to have you on board. And I'm with you, being paid to read books would be the best job but being paid to write them is amazing too.
As for favorite painter. I really don't know a ton about paintings and personally my favorites are usually artists just getting their work out there that I see at craft shows and such. Well actually it would have be my friend Eryn :)
Ooh, El Greco's a good one. I'll go with Hopper. I always stop and stare for him.
So glad you're here!!
