Utter Randomness

So we’re coming up on the end of “anything goes” week here at the café, and after reading all the great posts about summer movies, happy endings (in books!), and reading (darn you Sara for making me chose between writing and reading—I won’t do it, I tell you!)—I kind of drew a blank.

I mean, sure I could talk about the fact that CRUEL SUMMER was released on Tuesday

and received a 5 star review from TeensReadToo, with reviewer Cana Rensberger saying:

" . . .Teen girls will totally love CRUEL SUMMER by Alyson Noël. The story is told using letters home, the journal her mother gave her, “Colby’s Journal For Desperate Times…,” and her new blog. The range of emotions, devastating lows to breathtaking highs, and the intense feeling that everything affects her is so authentic. The reader will relate to her habit of over-thinking every comment, gesture, or word of an email, and the insecurity she feels around Yannis. I loved this book and totally devoured it. For this reason, I give it five stars!"

Or how the French Version of FLY ME TO THE MOON was recently released!

But that’s better saved for promo week.

So then I thought I could write about the awesome Book Talk I did last week at the Lewis Library and Technology Center

and how they even put together a craft table so readers could make their own journals like the one in SAVING ZOE

but then I remembered how I recently blogged about that on my blog.

Then I though, hey, I know, I’ll confess something juicy like:

How I very recently, Netflixed the season 1 DVD of BUFFY (I know, I know, I’m way past late on this one), and am now so incredibly hooked I’ve filled up my entire netflix “queue” with all seven seasons and ANGEL too.

Or, how I was once mistaken for Mariah Carey while shopping at Armstrong Nursery in Newport Beach. Seriously, this woman walked right up to me and asked if I was her. Even when I said no, she said she and her friends recognized me right away. And when I said no again, it was clear she didn't believe me. And, for the record, I was not wearing a tight spandex minidress, a lame bikini, or a slit up to here gown. Though I did have awfully big blonde hair and large dark sunglasses, which I promptly got rid of (yes, both the hair and the sunglasses).

But then I thought, um- nobody cares about that stuff. Maybe you should just make a list of all the upcoming events you’re looking forward to. Stuff like-

BEA (free books!), ALA (more free books!), RWA (get to meet some of my fellow café peeps!), the June 10 release of Jessica Brody’s THE FIDELITY FILES (READ IT! You will not be disappointed!), my niece and nephews annual surf camp visit (can’t wait til July!), long lazy days at the beach, finishing my WIP so I can actually read some of those free books, eating outside, BBQ’s, leaving the windows open to let the ocean breeze in . . .

But then I thought- Aw heck, I really don't know what to write. So I'll just leave you with this:

Have a good weekend everyone!

So tell me, any upcoming events you’re looking forward to?? Anything random you want to share?

Beautiful picture, Alyson. Yay for the upcoming release and five star review!!! I wish I was in LA to head to BEA and stock up on books! (Of course, my TBR pile is already out of control...)

Things I'm looking forward to in June: Meg Cabot's Airhead release, Teri's Read my Lips release, your Cruel Summer release, the last day of school (our kids still have two days to go), a cruise to the Mexican Riviera in two weeks (taking my parents for their 50th), accompanying my DH on a business trip to London, followed by my first ever visit to Scotland. I think that should keep me busy...

Looking forward to your new book, Alyson! I really loved your earlier ones...

And glad you're getting into Buffy & Angel, even at this late date...some day the whole planet will have watched Buffy, and then we'll have reached perfection and the universe can happily explode... ;-)

In the short term, I'm looking forward to getting a new kitten (though come to think of it, what other kind of kitten is there?); in the long term, I'm looking forward to the RWA conference!

Yay, on the new release and 5 star review.

I've never watched Buffy. I think I'll have too.... Another TFC member has them all (and probably spares) and I'm sure if I ask nicely she'll lend me them!!!!

Looking forward to meeting you at RWA!

Great post! I'm looking forward to a summer house in the Catskills starting in July, with a field of dandelions to write in! (This could be my romantic notions--it'll probably be so buggy I'll have to go inside.)

And yay! for Cruel Summer's 5-starness!

Hey Gerb- Oh, your summer sounds wonderful- full of travel and fun! And for the record, I just got back from BEA with 6 tote bags overflowing with books (and nowhere to put them!).

Hi Cara- I agree, everyone should be watching Buffy and Angel- the cool thing is my husband likes them as much as I do! Very exciting on the new kitten, and looking forward to mtg you at RWA!

Sara- Please read Cara's post so you can see why it's imperative that you borrow those DVDs like- pronto!

Hey Melissa- Writing in a field of dandelions??? Completely swoon worthy! Have fun!

OMG - Alyson, I'm so excited that you're watching Buffy and Angel. They are the best shows In The World (though I'm sorry but I've already got dibs on David Boreanaz). And when you've done with them, don't forget to watch Firefly, it only went for one season but it was utterly brilliant. And when you've done with that it should be just about time for Joss' new show, Dollhouse to come out!!!!!

Alyson Noel said...

Hey Amanda- Yes, looking forward to Firefly and Dollhouse. And regarding this whole concept of "dibs" --I'm sure this can be negotiated in a non-violent, peaceful way????

Congrats - 5 stars!! :)

Seriously, Mariah Carey? You should have started belting out one of her hits. :) I'd love to live in CA.

I'm looking forward to hanging out at the beach everyday with my little girl, like I did today. The best.

Keri- Hanging out on the beach everyday sounds great! And even though I have a beach right down the street- I rarely go except for the weekends . . .crazy, I know!

Thanks so much for blogging about THE FIDELITY FILES! I'm halfway through CRUEL SUMMER now and absolutely in love with it. You are so freaking talented. :)

Hey Ms. Brody of the soon to be released FIDELITY FILES- right back at ya!
