School Days (Late!): BFFs

I missed my slot for posting about School Days because, well, I flaked. But I've been thinking a lot about high school times lately because I just went on a trip with three best friends from high school:

Kara, Anna, Ruthie and I have known each other forever (that's me in the coral shirt; we're in front of the grounds to Hearst Castle on California's Central Coast). Sometimes school days yield lifelong friends... who know you better than anyone.

So I wonder: Are there people from high school you keep in touch with, or plan to?

Absolutely! Even though I ended up in PA and my high school friends all stayed in Boston, each time I come home I get to play celebrity and they plan get-togethers and group dinners and events. We did the group trip a few years back (a cruise, which worked really well), and they all flew down to see my new house last year. I miss the day-to-day hanging out that they still get to do (and was quite jealous that I couldn’t attend the NKOTB reunion tour with them last year), but I am so lucky to have kept in touch despite time and distance.

It’s great to have those grounding influences, the people who can say: “Wow, I can’t believe people think you’re a grown up – I remember the time you…”

Two of my friends are getting married this year. I talk to a couple more too, but mostly it's just my husband. We've been together for almost 10 years!

Oh, I love Hearst Castle--central CA is sooo pretty!

And yup, I keep in touch with lots of people from high school! I lost touch for many years since I moved to Greece shortly after and then NYC, but now that I'm back in The OC, I've reconnected with a bunch--it's awesome!

i keep in touch with a LOT of friends from high school - the all girls catholic thing is always a good bonding device! but i love them and travel with them and talk with them often. three of my friends came to visit me in new york and it was great, despite the fact they all had flight delays in and out. and when we all go home for the holidays (we are scattered around the country and world!) we all try to get together often.

i love my friends, i love our inside jokes that still make sense, i love that there are people that understand the urge to run every time a dessert buffet is laid out, that understand me now the same way they understood me in my angsty bitter high school phase.

now some are married, others with kids, and we all still share something that no one can take away from us. it's awesome, and i treasure them daily.

Aww yay Hearst Castle - that's right by me! (Cal Poly woot woot)

I am only a third year in college, but I think so far I've done a really good job at keeping in contact with my high school friends. My best friend goes to Hawaii for school and we still make sure to talk all the time, even though I've probably only seen her less than 10 times in the past year.

Glad to see that you have maintained solid relationships with your friends!

Just one: we've been friends for nearly 32 years.

I keep in touch with several, and now that I'm on Facebook it's really easy. I keep up with my husband's old high school friends too, because he's so bad at it.

My best friend from high school is definitely a lifelong friend and I recently have gotten close with two of my other best girl friends from high school again and am so grateful for that!
