Mooooovies... how I love ya, how I love ya...

So I actually went to a movie theater this weekend and saw a movie. For many of you, this may not seem like a big deal. But this is the first movie I've seen in a theater in 2009. A major red letter day on the Cassidy calendar!

The hubster and I saw Harry Potter 6 with my brother and sister-in-law. We chatted on our way out about things that were different than the book, of course, but I can't even fathom trying to condense that enormous book down into 2-1/2 hours of screen time. I think they did an admirable job.

As the reviews went by, I realized there are more movies I really want to see, some out now and some coming soon. Here are my top five:

** The Proposal
** My Sister's Keeper
** Julie and Julia
** Sherlock Holmes
** Where the Wild Things Are

What say you about these movies? Are they worth the $19 to see them in the theater or should we wait and nab them on Netflix?

And what about you? What movies are you looking forward to seeing?

We usually get movies we want to see, but aren't sure they are worth the $20+ at the movies, on netflix. Netflix is our hero!

I watched The Proposal and it was much fun! Hm, it's better to snuggle up in front of the TV with it instead of theaters but I guess you can enjoy it just as much!

Love The Ugly Truth though! But can be offensive and dirty.

I've been hankering for The Hurt Locker since I saw a preview months ago but it came out in limited release - it finally opened wide so I went and it was worth the wait! My favorite movie of the year so far.

Haven't seen a movie, in an actual theatre in ages--and it's one of my fave things to do!! I do want to see Harry Potter though, and since I haven't read any of the books (gasp!), I don't compare, I just enjoy!

Brooke - Netflix is our hero too! My husband gets movies to watch while he runs on the treadmill, so there's always something new around the house.

Diana - I really want to see The Proposal. Sandra and Ryan are always great, so I think they'd have to be fabulous together. And I've been trying to decide about The Ugly Truth too. Thanks for the feedback!

Martha - I just saw a review for The Hurt Locker. Thanks for the recommendation! Glad it was worth the wait. :-)

Alyson - You haven't read them? I'd have pegged you for a Harry fan from way back. :-) I do think it's nice sometimes to see the movie first and then read the book because then the book adds layers to the story instead of the movie taking layers away. I'm going to see My Sister's Keeper first and then I'll finally read the book.

The Proposal's really good and funny. (And sad. I cried. But I think that's just me.) My Sister's Keeper is also great, and is also really sad- I think everyone cries.

Another movie I reallyreally want to see is 500 Days of Summer. I'm hoping to see it tonight actually. :)

Some movies are must-theater-sees... HP is one of those!

The only one I saw on your list is "The Proposal," and I think it's worth paying for. It's sweet and funny and Betty White alone is worth the price of admission! :)(Not to mention Ryan Reynolds is hot! LOL!)

Alex - I cry at movies all the time too! My husband just grins while I do - he knows he's stuck with me despite that. ;-) Have fun seeing the movie tonight!

Melissa - Yes! Although I didn't see HP5 until it was on DVD. But they are so worth the price of admission to see on the big screen.

Karen - Betty White is in it to??? Now I HAVE to see it! I still laugh every time I see a Golden Girls rerun. (And on Ryan? Way yes, he is! LOL)

I'm with you, Kay. I rarely see movies in the theater.

The only one I've seen on your list is The Proposal and though it's worth watching, I wouldn't pay $19 to see it in the theater.

I've heard GREAT things about The Hangover. It might be about out of regular theaters by now though.

Going to see The Ugly Truth and G.I. Joe sometime next week for a DOUBLE FEATURE! We hardly ever go to the movies unless it's a double feature anymore. My brother did a review of Harry Potter on our blog check it out. http://teensreadandwrite.blogspot.com/2009/07/harry-potter-and-half-blood-prince.html

I'm waiting to see Harry Potter, thought I was going to see it last week when my brother came to stay but he didn't want to go....what can I say????

Actually for the most part of it, the only movies I see at the cinema are the kid movies when it's school holidays. For everything else I normally wait until it comes to DVD (unless of course it has essential viewing material like good looking men and then Sara Hantz and I make an excuse to go and perv!!)
