To blog or not to blog.....

That is the question..... and something I've been thinking about a lot lately. I'm not thinking of TFC, even though I'm ashamed to admit I forgot to post the last couple of times (purely a memory problem, which is nothing to do with age, before anyone says anything), but my own blog.

I look at some people and they blog at length every single day, and at the moment I'm lucky to blog once or twice a month. I'm not sure why this has happened, though I suspect Twitter has a lot to do with it. I seem to either Tweet or blog but have trouble doing both. And then there's Facebook, that too takes time. If I'm not careful I'll end up spending all my time networking at the expense of writing!!!

So, what to do? I don't know. I've been blogging for over five years, and it would be sad to stop. I have no idea how many people regularly read my blog because my stats don't reflect all those on Google reader etc.

What do you think? If you're a blogger do you blog as much now? Has your blogging suffered as a result of Twitter and Facebook?

I don't blog as much as I use to because I don't have as much free time as I use to and nothing interesting really happens now that I'm out of high school lol.

As far as my review blog, it's hard to keep up sometimes and at the same time make it feel personal so it doesn't seem like I'm some robot. But again.... with the lack of free time. But when I do have free time, I try to set posts in advance.

I don't think that you should stop... if you like blogging then keep blogging. It's your blog, you can post as much (or less) as you want to!

Blogging is still my favorite online format. I'm on Twitter, but for me it's a very different experience--there are so many people that keeping up with them is haphazard, and 140 characters is not enough to develop thoughts in depth. So I use Twitter for news and quick updates, the blog for more in-depth discussion.

And I'm not on Facebook at all.

One thing I did was to organize my online ventures around a schedule, so I give each of them the amount of attention I want to and can afford to. There's a forum I visit once a week; I look at my blog once or twice a day; I go on Twitter at least once a day. I have certain blogs I read daily, and others I only check weekly. There's one group blog where I post monthly.

I haven't been blogging nearly as much this year. I'm trying to put my main focus into novel writing so that's a good thing, but I also don't feel like I have as much to say as I used to which is weird. Or I have the wrong things to say, like grumpy venty things that should go in a diary not a blog. I don't know, I felt guilty about not blogging as frequently at first and I do keep up my online presence on twitter, but as writerjenn says it's not a place for in depth stuff... but I don't know, like Marie says it is my blog and I should just use it how I want to, posting when I can. And I think you should too, Sara. I do love your posts!

I've been blogging a lot more this year because I moved across country and it seems to be the only place my parents are willing to go online catch up on info (not Facebook or Twitter). I find myself blogging more for me then anyone else. I believe that my blog is mainly personal in nature and doesn't appeal to a broad audience, but who knows who is reading it.

I've often thought about having multiple blogs for different topics and even started a second blog for book reviews and reading related content, but found it much more challenging to keep both up.

As for Twitter and Facebook that is usually where I find a few ideas of what to blog about or respond to, but I do find myself spending a bit too much time on them and not actually doing any writing.

Our minds are on parallel paths, Sara! :-) My post for tomorrow is about how much value blogging and social media really add to my life.

My blog just went away last week which I'm VERY excited about. It's long overdue, really, so it's nice to not have to worry about keeping that up to date. In fact, I'm really excited about streamlining a lot of things about my writing life in 2011. Let the new year begin! :-)

I love this, Marie: "nothing interesting really happens now that I'm out of high school." Maybe that's why we write YA! Ha.

Anyway, I've definitely been doing less "free form" blogging lately, I think. I have regular features that I do on my blog, like interviewing authors about their covers and hosting a weekly contest and posting photos on Friday, but that all feels automatic and still fun. The more free-thinking stuff has fallen away a little. I'm not sure why, or if readers care, but I only want to do those posts when they feel really natural.

So I guess I'm saying: I get you. x
