Heard It Through The Grapevine

This week's topic is CURRENT EVENTS, and I have to admit I’m at a bit of a loss. I mean, I suppose I could write about:

1. THE SUPERBOWL—that’s that show about football, right?

2. POLITICS—Super Tuesday, anyone? But since I’m married to a political ANIMAL, I’ll have plenty of that tomorrow so I won’t bore you with it here.

3. There’s always the latest CELEBRITY DISH—someone entered rehab, someone’s having twins, someone is so exhausted it required hospitalization . . .(Apparently working for several months—in a row—can do this to a person. Who knew?)

4. The latest OPRAH BOOK CLUB pick—I downloaded A NEW EARTH onto my iPod a year ago—if you’re into that kind of thing, it’s amazing! If not, proceed to number five.

5. My NETI POT obsession—if you’re at all squeamish, easily frightened, susceptible to new ideas, have a heart condition, low blood pressure, are under 3’ 8”—then please, ask your doctor before clicking.

6. NEW YORK FASHION WEEK- hint- black is the new black.

But the truth is, I’m under a major DEADLINE (a.k.a.—the most overused though completely valid excuse in any writer's repertoire), which means I’m really not up on any of these things. Though if I were, rest assured, THESE are the subjects I’d be writing about!

What about YOU? What current event has grabbed your attention??

Alyson Noël is the author of 7 books for teens and adults and is currently chained to her computer, feverishly working on number 8. Feel free to visit her at: www.alysonnoel.com She welcomes all distractions.

Good luck on the deadline, Alyson. Having JUST (like, Friday) sent my MSS in to my editor, I feel for you.

The current events around here (Utah, USA) are basically two things right now.
1. The excessive amount of snow some parts of the state has gotten and the problems it's causing, like the death of deer and other wildlife (we volunteered to run a feed station), leaky roofs (my poor, soaking wet closet), buried cars, and people having to miss that little football game last night because of the need to do snow removal.
2. The other current event is the death of the LDS (Mormon) president, Gordon B. Hinkley, who was something like 98 years old! (For those of you who don't know, this part of the country is heavily saturated LDS, so this has hit really hard--but not in a bad way. He lived a great, not to mention LONG, life!)

Anyway, that's the Utah edition of "In the News." Haha! Stay warm, y'all!

I just have to give a shout-out to neti pots too. I posted about them last month on ohoprah.com, but sigh, still breathing easy!

Can all things in the news be linked to Oprah? I think maybe.

Hey Wendy- My condolences on the snow, the animals, Gordon B. Hinkley--I think this is the real reason I'm taking a news break-- it's all so sad! Though very cool that you're volunteering to run a feed station!

Hey Melissa-
I once heard someone refer to Oprah as "America's town square"-- I thought it a very accurate description!

Oh, and I SOOO love my neti pot!

Hahaha - I clicked on neti pot thinking it was some sort of cyber pet and then discovered you had to squirt it up your nose, so I guess if it was a cyber pet then it would only take me one day to kill it!!!! Good luck finishing book eight. I just finished my wip last week and after hating it forever, I'm now suddenly sad to see it go!!!

Amanda- I've grown so fond of my Neti Pot it IS like a pet! Congrats on finishing your WIP-isn't that THE BEST feeling!

Danette- sleeping in on a rainy day is one of my favorite things! Sleeping in on a sunny day is my second favorite thing!

Bev- You just have to view the clip over and over again, so that you become de-sensitized, and before you know it, your a Neti Pot user!

My world is small. I check the 'net's biggest headlines, click on links, then I hunker down into my world. My mother's always saying, I never know what's going on in the world because I don't watch the news.

I do know, it's just I read it all on a computer screen instead. :) ;)

Hey Kelly-
Not watching the news is not such a bad thing! But like you, I get most of my info from the Internet too!

I'm trying to think of a current event that has attracted my attention, so I can post about it!!!!
