Win a copy of Zombie Queen of Newbury High

OMG- there's only four months until ZOMBIE QUEEN OF NEWBURY HIGH hits the shelves and to celebrate this momentous occasion I'm going to give away my Very Last arc!

Yup, that's right, this is your only chance to get a sneak peek at what happens when Mia Everett decides to do a love spell to stop her prom date from dumping her, but instead she (accidently) releases a virus that turns her entire senior year into flesh-eating zombies who are determined to make Mia the first course in their new meat-only diet. Whoops. And now Mia's only chance of survival is if she and hottie zombie hunter, Chase Miller can find a cure before it hits the final stage. She suggests that no one wear white to prom, because things could get very messy.

Now, I love my heroine as much as the next author, but between you and me, I think Mia probably would've found it a lot easier if she'd had some sort of Zombie Survival plan. So, in order to give Mia a helping hand, and to prepare yourselves for if you should ever be in a similar situation, I want to hear everyone's best Zombie Survival Tips for what they would do if they were being attacked by the living dead.

Though, let me give you a gentle hint - don't say that you would lie there and play dead because it wouldn't work. Zombies might look stupid - what with all the crazy walking and the drooling - but they've got a serious sense of smell and they'd be pulling out the ketchup bottles and chewing on your arm before you even realized your mistake.

So, see, it's simple. All you need to do is leave me your best zombie survival tip and you can go in with a chance to win. I'm running this competition on my blog, myspace and Teen Fiction Cafe and you can leave an answer on any of them (or all of them if you REALLY want to!!!!) and I'll pick a winner on Sunday night. Easy peasy.

Yay - four months to go!

To survive a zombie attack, perhaps one could play dead? It wouldn't make for a very exciting scene, I know...

The book looks fabulous! I'd love to win a copy.

Hmm, how to survive a zombie attack? I'm hoping your book will give me some tips . . .

Get out your sharpest meat cleaver, then run for your life!

Cool contest! I can't wait to read all the zombie survival tips. I don't know much about zombies but are alive people their favorite meal, or would, say, a toasted PB&J do the trick? OR ... from the movies I've seen, zombies' limbs tend to come off fairly easily, so maybe carry a sword or chainsaw around at all times? If the zombie is reduced to a torso, he can't run very fast, eh?

My favorite zombie attack weapon is the hairspray/lighter blowtorch. Fire works on zombies, werewolves AND vampires.

Hmmm, I already have my copy (as you know) and I can't wait to dig in! But in the spirit of all things Zombie, I thought I'd play along by saying I would bring a garlic clove, holy water, and a big silver cross, then I would eat the garlic so my breath would be so bad they wouldn't want to come near me!

Ha! Take THAT zombie!

Amanda Ashby said...

Vanessa - unfortunately they know when you're alive so basically you're just lying down on the plate for them!!!!!

Kimberley - ah, the classic meat cleaver - a person should never leave home without it!

Wendy - hahaha - I think you're having a little bit too much here!!!! But yes, arm and leg removal is definitely a great idea!!!

Librarygirl - LOVE IT!!!!!

Alyson - sneaky. I like that in a person!!!!

Allison said...

Well, this works for bear attacks, so why not Zombies? "You don't have to be the fastest runner. You just have to out run the person next to you." So wrong, but it's Zombie Survival 101!

Megan said...

Ooh, tough question.

Let's see...zombies are usually kind of slow, so get in a car and drive, drive, drive!

Hmm... I have some friends who are obsessed with zombies, but I'm not nearly so knowledgeable. I'd say to get to someplace isolated, where there are likely to be less zombies (deserted island, mountain, boat, etc.) and make sure to have food and supplies. If zombies attack, make sure to have some powerful weapons to use against them, preferably with blades or flames. And if for some reason you are caught without a weapon, zig-zag when you run so they can't easily follow you.

Amanda Ashby said...

Allison - that is truly hysterical!!!!!! (and phew that I've taken up jogging again!!!)

Meggy - hehehe - like when Indianna Jones shots the bad guy with a gun instead of all the horsing around. I like it.

To survive a zombie would be stuffing it into a trunk and sit on it (:

Amanda Ashby said...

Ann D - oooh, it's neat, simple and uncomplicated. No wonder I never thought of it!!!!!

Sarah Woodard said...

Make sure you board up the windows and reinforce the doors after finding somewhere isolated. Get as much supplies as possible. Everything is a weapon, so use it. If someone gets bitten isolate them and see if they turn. I think I have watched way too many zombie movies.

Iserr said...

Hmmm, I would say run um over with a steam roller, car or just a good old sword to decapitate the Zombie.

Amanda Ashby said...

Sarah - can you ever watch too many zombie movies????? Great tips!!!

Iserr - I'm loving the steamroller!!!!!

Okay, I'm really excited for this book. I'm horrible at zombie survival stuff, but my sister-in-law tells me if zombies do attack the best place to head is a jail. Because they have bars, lots of people who have been spending every day working out, and tons of food stocked up.

A survival tip:
invest in a bus pass so I can always get access to public transportation to run. =)

If for some reason you cannot outrun a zombie, I think a hockey stick would come in handy when fighting them off.

It's long so if you're like me and have short arms, you can swing out at a distance and knock them in the head! You might even be able to twirl around in a circle and knock a few of them in the head too. Then run, run, run!

Lauren Baratz-Logsted said...

I have no zombie tips. I will, however, buy this book as soon as it comes out.

Amanda Ashby said...

Emily - how handy to have a SIL who can give such excellent advice!!!

Carmen - hehe - just make sure the bus driver hasn't gone all carnivore on you!!

Sammy - nice!!!!

Lauren - you're such an angel!!

Laura said...

Remember to change the setting on your raygun from "stun" to "kill zombie."

Shooting Stars Mag said...

Hm a zombie survival tip? This is hard! I guess I would say that you should always carry around awesome smelling perfume (or cologne, for the guys) so if a zombie is near, spray it all over...and those stinky zombies won't be able to stand the wonderful smell and stay away!!

We can hope at least. haha

the best way to survive would be to:

1) rip your clothes up
2) roll around in the dirt
3) paint your face green
4) run around moaning and groaning

yes that's right the best way to survive is to trick them into thinking that you are one of them! and then when they aren't looking run....and never look back!!

Amanda Ashby said...

Laura - love it! I actually spend far too much time on the Internet looking at rayguns - they rock!!!!

Shooting Stars Mag - oooh yes. And it might help kill of the chicken smell as well (apparently we smell like really, really great BBQ chicken to them!!!)

The Giveaway Diva - oooh, I like the green face painting! Excellent!

Wow! There are some really creative comments, and unfortunately I am not the most creative person.

Personally, for me to survive a zombie attack, I would have to remember to take my heels off first. I love stilettos, but I am not the most graceful person. If a zombie was after me, I would either be killed by it or kill myself because I would trip over my own two feet! Either way I'm doomed with the heels on.

Projectile weapons. Zombies are slow and need to be close to take a chunk. Ranged weapons keep them from getting close. Be proficient at throwing your pots and pans.

Amanda Ashby said...

Stephanie - yup - a knife is always handy when being attacked by flesh-sucking zombies!!!

Shalonda - ooh, I think you'll like Mia Everett! She buys a gorgeous pair of heels for the prom and no way is she leaving those babies behind!!!!

Liviana - hahaha - that made me laugh out loud to think of someone throwing pots and pans at them. Love it!!!

Rachael Stein said...

eh, i dont think i've got any good zombie tips. i'd say just to avoid them. if you encounter them, use a magical vanquishing weapon that makes them go poof.

i'd love to be entered. this novel sounds fabulous@

I'd love to win this ARC, please enter me.

Uhm to survive a zombie attack, brace yourself with many weapons, and err, it might sound weird but make the leader fall in love with you if possible, that way other zombies won't dare to harm you ^^

I would love to win a copy of this book!!

My tip would be to have weapons to fight them with, but if that fails then run as fast as you can!

I plan to raid the make-up area of Universal or Disney because they make people 'look' like zombies quite often and I will get someone to make me up like a zombie, then I will find the sweater and other assorted clothing that my dog is for whatever reason always trying to eat and let her rip it up... then I will blend in well with the zombies, don't you think?

Otherwise I plan on getting a cherrypicker and getting up in a palm tree because hurricanes haven't knocked them down and I don't see zombies climbing them ;)

Amanda Ashby said...

Book Muncher - oh yes, I'm a BIG fan of magical vanquishing weapons - they rock!!!

Thao Tran - thinking outside the box - I like it!!!

Lauren - yup - running is handy when there are zombies around!

Book Spot - nice thinking about the cherry picker!!!!!!!

To survive a zombie attack...

I suggest you don't get yourself into that unfortunate predicament at any cost,

but if you do...

have a distraction ready. Maybe a really high pitched scream or pepper spray or a younger sibling to get them off your trail (I'm kidding ;P ).

Just remember to keep your wits about you at all times...
