Yum, yum, yummiest!

First of all, thank you to all the fabulous TFC bloggers for inviting me aboard! I’m totally delighted to be the newbie here. :-)

Sara’s post on Monday gave me such a hankering for sweet treats that I had to do my very first TFC post on my top five favorite treats. I’ll admit it, I have a huge sweet tooth. My tastes have grown up a bit over the years, but I still love some of the same treats I did when I was little. So here, in no particular order, are my top five faves:

1. Golden Oreos - There is almost always a package of these (or two or three if they’re on sale) in our pantry. Why? Vanilla sandwich cookies are the absolute best for dunking in milk. (I’m a dunker from way back.)

2. Chips Ahoy chocolate chip cookies - L-O-V-E. But I’ll easily eat half a sleeve at a sitting if I’m not paying attention (and have a full glass of milk - again with the dunking). I've learned that I have to take out however many cookies I’m planning to eat and put the bag back in the pantry. I don’t know why it’s so easy to eat them out of the sleeve. Maybe because you can’t really see how many you’ve eaten? I’m not sure. (And holy moley... this picture makes my stomach jealous. Chips Ahoy S'mores!!!)

3. Krispy Kreme glazed yeast donuts - Especially if they’re still warm from the oven. Heaven. Donuts just don’t get any better than this, in my opinion.

4. Rice Krispies treats - I hadn’t had these in years until I tried one of the prepackaged kind they sell now. They were okay, but it made me want to go home and make my own batch from scratch. And oh boy, were they ever good! Except they got rock hard almost immediately. (Does anyone have a tip for how to keep this from happening to my marshmallowy goodness?)

5. Cherry chip cake with cherry frosting - I know, I hear some of you gagging out there. ;-) But I had this for my birthday every year growing up, so it’s as much a sentimental favorite as a sweet favorite. I tend to scrape off more of the icing nowadays, but it’s still the best birthday cake this girl could ask for.

What about you? When you're in the mood for a treat, what do you reach for first?

OMG, Kay! Cherry chip cake with cherry icing is my MOST favorite sweet in the world. I also had these cakes every year growing up and eating one brings back such sweet memories! ;)

I'm a chocolate freak, but it has to be good chocolate. Like Toblerone or Lindt chocolate or my recent favorite, Tahiti cookies. Super Yum!

Kay, - have never heard of that type of cake, but I'm totally up for trying it! I'm a huge fan of "Texas sheet cake". :)

A woman after my own heart, er, stomach. Yeah! This list rocks.

Kay, love your treats! What I reach for depends on what's in the house, but my favs are regular Oreos (refrigerated), anything dark chocolate, caramel, and choclolate frosting right out of the container. These aren't even guilty pleasures bec. I refuse to feel guilty about them. :)

You rock, babe!

Steph - Yes! Just more proof that we are twins separated at birth. :-)

Gerb - Mmm... choooocolate... I used to be a milk-chocolate-only girl but as soon as I hit my 30s, I fell in love with dark chocolate. Now it's such a nice treat!

Jenn - LOVE Texas sheet cake! I haven't had that in forever. Must find my recipe for it. Yum!

Summer - Thanks! Anyone who loves the same sweets as I do is a friend for life. :-)

Nancy - Ooo... I never thought about refrigerating the Oreos. Thanks for the tip! Off to experiment...

Love love love Krispy Kremes - though every time I eat one, I think I feel my arteries harden.

Lindt chocolate is awesome!

Mmmmm, rice crispy treats! I'm a BIG fan. And now I'm totally craving them.

I usually go for the salty snacks over sweet, though - except chocolate, which everyone knows is an actual food group *g* so I always have popcorn makings ready. Absolutely love popcorn.

Steph - Aren't Krispy Kremes the best??? We got a Dunkin Donuts in my town not too long ago and it's been wonderful, but I'd still trade it for a Krispy Kreme shop. :-)

Tawny - Oh totally, salty rocks too. Especially when you mix salty and sweet, like with chocolate covered pretzels? Sooo yummy. (And yes, chocolate is definitely a food group!)

I was just in Hawaii where I was reacquainted with the pineapple upside down cake with vanilla bean ice-cream---HEAVEN!!!

Kay, what a fun post! And I used to LOVE cherry chip cake *g*

Let's see, a few of my favorite sweet treats are Peanut M&Ms, chocolate pudding cake still warm from the oven (the pudding part just sort of oozes out. OMG. It. Is. Good.) and the triple chocolate cake I made last weekend. So tasty!

Right now my youngest is making cupcakes. It's nice having a kid who enjoys baking (and cleans up after herself *g*) but if she doesn't stop, I won't fit in my writing chair much longer :-)

My husband and I are addicted to eclair cake-he makes it the best. It's easy to make and it dissappears so fast in our house! I'm also a sucker for cookies-especially chewy chips ahoy, E.L. Fudge and Orange Milanos. But I don't dunk-soggy cookies weird me out.

I much rather original or double-stuff (chocolate) Oreos. Maybe I should try the golden ones again someday. I have to say I'm majorly craving sweets now!

Alyson - Mmm... pineapple upside-down cake with fresh Hawaiian pineapples? Delish! Plus I never turn down vanilla bean ice cream. So yummy.

Beth - Chocolate pudding cake is one of my absolute faves. I love Chili's version, but there's a mix one I've made at home that's almost as good! Especially when topped with Breyers vanilla bean ice cream. :-)

Green - Eclair cake??? Holy wow, I think I totally need that recipe. It sounds like heaven on a plate! :-)

Nisha - Me too!! :-) Every time I read a comment I think "Wow, now I want that too!" LOL

Kay Cassidy said...

Wendy - Oh yeah, you've totally got to try the Golden version. If I lived closer, I'd bring you a box myself. :-) Traditional Oreos are still scrumptious, but Golden Oreos are really nice when you want something a bit lighter. A perfect almost-summer treat!

Kay - I want to hang out with you and your snack shelf!!!!!!

I have so many favorite treats but right now it's all about chocolate mud cake and fresh whipped cream (thankfully due to the time difference in NZ and the rest of the world, this treat contains no calories whatsoever.)

Okay, that last bit was a lie, but it would be cool if it was true!

Late to the party but now I want chocolate chip cookies with a thick layer of white frosting between them.

Kay Cassidy said...

Amanda - OMG, if chocolate mud cake has no calories in your part of the world, I am sooo there. I think I can fit most of my snack shelf in my luggage (though it may require a suitcase of its own). Deal?

Lauren - There's no such thing as late to the party when it comes to dessert. There's only "swinging by for the second dessert course". ;-) Enjoy your cyber cookie sandwiches!

I reach for salt! Chips, chips, chips! And a soda (though I'm trying to switch to seltzer!)
